The Import Standardization Mark (ISM) is a quality mark/sticker developed and implemented by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) since 1st August 2015. The UCR number is only provided by the KEBS Bureau and the objective is to combat the rampant counterfeiting of KEBS Quality Marks and provide a number for on-field real-time validation and verification of goods bearing KEBS Quality Marks. The UCR number also enables consumers to authenticate the validity of certification of goods online before making a purchase.
According to the requirements, all imported products intended for sale in the local market must bear the ISM sticker. To apply for ISM, one needs to submit copies of Certificate of Conformity, Import Declaration Form, and Customs Entry to KEBS. The ISM serves as an assurance to consumers that the imported products comply with the relevant quality standards and have been verified by KEBS.
